LION MEN SECOND, WOMEN FIFTH AT TARLETON INVITATIONAL

STEPHENVILLE — Both of the A&M-Commerce track and field teams posted top five finishes as teams in Stephenville with the men finishing second among 13 teams and the women fifth among 15 teams.

John David Rollins won his heat and finished second overall in the 100m with a 10.78. Ravi Dubose also won his heat and finished ninth overall posting an 11.03. Dubose and Erik Williams posted top ten finishes in the 200m. Dubose had a 22.27 and Williams ran a 22.24.

Avion Stewart finished tied for third overall in the 110m hurdles with a 14.92. Matt Rich finished seventh with a 15.18. Stewart also finished sixth in the 400m hurdles.

EJ Skinner, Adam Gary and Erik Williams all recorded top ten times in the 400m. Skinner was ninth with a 50.76. Gary and Williams both had 50.79.

Luis Romero led a strong performance in the 800m for the Lions with his win. Tyler Hemenway and Dorian McCradic both finished in the top five for A&M-Commerce. McCradic was not done on the day, winning the 1500m with a time of 4:00.94.

Both of the 4x400m relay teams finished in the top five.

James Lundy finished fourth in the high jump with a 1.77-meter (5’9”) jump. Dakota Fountain won the long jump event with a 7.17 meters (23’6.25”). John David Rollins finished second in the long jump with 6.98-meter (22’11”) jump. Xavier Townsend finished sixth with a 6.64-meter (21’ 9.5”) jump.  Townsend then went on to win the triple jump 14.56-meter jump.

Angela Reed finished fourth overall for the women in the in the 100m with a time of 12.52. Vanessa Jackson won the 200m for the women running a 25.04.

Shunterrical Lamb finished ninth in the 800m running a 2:29.79.

The Lions 4x100m relay team recorded a top five finish with a time of 48.23.

Abagail Leau-Peptele finished fifth in the shot put with a 12.17-meter throw. Ashley Ross finished second in the hammer, posting a 42.95 throw. Kabrina Hartfield finished ninth in the hammer.

Both track and field teams will have a week off before returning to competition at Texas Arlington on March 24th for the Bobby Lane Invitational.

    Funeral services for Kelly Walker Jones of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 10 a.m., May 11, in the West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Hoyt Scoggins officiating and Jay Porterfield assisting. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Lance Looney, Grant Looney, Kyle Smith, Ryan Reed, Taylor Pace and Brad McFadden serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Trey Elliott.
