COMMERCE IDOL TALENT SHOW AUDITIONS ANNOUNCED

Local Talent to Compete for First-Place Cash Prize; Funds Raised for Scholarships

COMMERCE — Auditions get underway March 4 and 5 at the Commerce High School cafetorium as the Rotary Club gears up for the annual Commerce Idol talent show and scholarship fundraiser, to be held Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m.  

The event is the Commerce Rotary’s largest fundraiser of the year, and will feature residents of Commerce and its surrounding areas, as well as students enrolled in Commerce schools and Texas A&M University-Commerce, showcasing family-friendly acts that may include vocal, instrumental or dance performance as well as comedy skits or other medium.  

The Monday and Tuesday auditions will start at 6:30 p.m. at CHS, and participants must bring completed forms (available at www.commercerotary.org for download) and the mandatory entry fee in order to be scheduled for the March 23 competition.

Performances will be scored on overall presentation, costumes or attire, audience enthusiasm and overall talent.  First and second place trophies will be awarded for each group category and cash prizes will also be given to the first-place winners.

    Funeral services for Kelly Walker Jones of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 10 a.m., May 11, in the West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Hoyt Scoggins officiating and Jay Porterfield assisting. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Lance Looney, Grant Looney, Kyle Smith, Ryan Reed, Taylor Pace and Brad McFadden serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Trey Elliott.

It was announced that A&M-Commerce was not allowed to have a blue field with gold lettering because Boise State University has a patent on blue fields. Would you have liked to seen a blue Memorial Stadium?

Yes. I think it would have helped the school spirit and brought more people to the games.
