Grand jury to consider local homicide in meeting Friday

Local homicide, burglary cases may be considered

COMMERCE — The Hunt County grand jury is set to meet again Friday, as local prosecutors present evidence in felony cases for consideration by the 196th District Court.

Two cases from Commerce, a pending homicide investigation and a local burglary connected to a stolen vehicle in Tarrant County, may be among the cases reviewed by the panel.

The current grand jury term runs through June.

The specifics of the cases which are presented to the grand jury are kept confidential until such time as the panel decides whether or not to issue indictments.

The grand jury can either issue indictments — or “true bills” — or determine its investigation did not find sufficient evidence to issue an indictment, in which case a “no bill” is issued.

The indictments are issued open and made public, or are issued sealed if the subject named in the indictment has yet to be arrested and arraigned on the pending charge.

It is possible the grand jury may consider indictments in three recent cases.

— Myesha Simone Garcia, 20 of Commerce, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond on one count of murder involving the Nov. 28, 2012, death of Jamal Stanton, 20, of Greenville. Stanton died of a stab wound to the upper left torso. According to a report from the Commerce Police Department, Stanton was involved in an altercation at a local apartment complex.

— Quincy Lamont Terrell remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of a total of $75,000 bond on a charge of theft of over $20,000 and under $100,000. Commerce Police Department officers were dispatched on the afternoon of Jan. 17 to the 1400 block of Caddo in reference to a home burglary, and were given information on a suspicious vehicle that had been seen in the area. A possible identification of the suspect was also given at that time and officers determined the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Grand Prairie.

Officers found the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the McDonalds restaurant and also allegedly discovered Terrell playing with what was later determined to be a stolen I-Pad taken from the burglary on Caddo Street. Terrell allegedly admitted to burglarizing several vehicles at a local apartment complex on Jan. 12.

He also allegedly admitted to stealing a vehicle from the parking lot and taking it to Dallas where he wrecked the car and fled the scene. Terrell was also said to have admitted to burglarizing an apartment in Grand Prairie and stealing the car from there.
