BREAKING: One burglary suspect apprehended, another reportedly barricaded in residence

GISD campuses taken off lockdown

COMMERCE — UPDATE 12:01 p.m.– Statement from GISD: "We received word from the Greenville Police Department at 11:50 a.m. that the armed suspect had been apprehended and that the campuses were cleared from external lock-down. A Student Resource Officer will remain at Bowie Elementary for the remainder afternoon since the situation was located closest to this school. The external doors of all GISD campuses will remain locked as is routine and staff will remain extra vigilant to all campus visitors. As always, please call the Director of Community Services at 903-457-2521 with any questions."

UPDATE 11::54 a.m.– The Hunt County Sheriff is reporting two suspects wanted for a residential burglary in Van Zandt County were found this morning inside a residence in the 2300 block of Rabb Drive in Greenville. One of the suspects fled the scene and was later captured without incident. One of the suspects is believed to still be barricaded inside the residence at this time. Firearms were reported stolen during the Van Zandt County burglary, but it is not known if the remaining suspect is still armed. No shots have been fired and no one has been hurt. And the sheriff is confirming that the two suspects are NOT, repeat NOT connected the incident earlier today in Kaufman County. The sheriff is preparing to serve a warrant on the remaining suspect. Most if not all local schools and the hospital were placed on lockdown as a precaution today. The status of those lockdowns was not immediately known.

UPDATE 11:11 a.m.–  One of two suspects being sought in connection with a burglary on Rabb Drive in Greenville has been apprehended. Officers are preparing to sweep the residence on Rabb Drive to determine if the second suspect is still inside.

UPDATE 10:52 a.m.– Release from GISD: "Greenville ISD was alerted by the Greenville Police Department that they are searching for an armed suspect. Following police protocol, Bowie Elementary, Travis Elementary, the Greenville Sixth Grade Center and the Greenville High School immediately went under external lock-down. Should we be made aware that the suspect could be in the vicinity of any other GISD campuses, those campuses will also go under external lock-down. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Director of Community Services at 903-457-2521."

10:30 a.m.– Bowie Elementary, the Sixth Grade Center, Travis Elementary and Greenville High School are all currently on lockdown, due to a report of a suspicious person or persons who may be in the area. It is unknown at this time if the lockdown is related to a situation that developed on Rabb Drive in Greenville. The Greenville Police Department requested assistance on Rabb, and the westbound service road of Interstate 30 is being closed, with traffic diverted.

Rabb Drive is located between Stonewall and the westbound service road of I-30.

    Funeral services for Kelly Walker Jones of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 10 a.m., May 11, in the West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Hoyt Scoggins officiating and Jay Porterfield assisting. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Lance Looney, Grant Looney, Kyle Smith, Ryan Reed, Taylor Pace and Brad McFadden serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Trey Elliott.
