Commerce firefighters raise funds for Little Angels

COMMERCE — Commerce firefighter Gabe Wittkopf said the Commerce Fire Department does not want any child in the community to go without a good Christmas.

“We were approached to help out by the Little Angels to raise funds,” he said. “The fire department is always willing to help out in every way. We want to make sure that the kids in Commerce have a merry Christmas.”

The firefighters raised a total of $720 from their hot dog sale on Saturday in the Brookshire’s parking lot. Wittkopf said he is grateful to the community for their giving.

When approached by the fire department if it could use the Brookshire’s parking lot for the event, Brookshire’s Store Director Joel Shanks said he is always willing to help out.

“We are always excited to do stuff like this for the community,” he said. “We supplied all the food and they supplied the labor for the event.”

Shanks said the company enjoys being a part of the community.

“It was a really good event,” he said. “It’s a good cause and we enjoy being active in the community.”

Wittkopf said he is glad when he sees the citizens of Commerce come together for a good cause.

“We want to thank the citizens of Commerce for their dedication to helping,” he said. “We love to be a part of the community and are very proud when everyone comes forward to help others.”

Wittkopf said the department enjoys helping organizations and being an active member of the community.

“One of the great joys for us is to help the Little Angels at Christmas and to be out in the community visiting and getting familiar with the citizens,” he said. “We want this holiday season to be special for all. The Commerce Fire Department wants to thank the citizens of Commerce and wish everyone a very merry Christmas.”
