Lions coach Sam Walker looks to break all-time win mark

COMMERCE — The Texas A&M University-Commerce Atheltics Department is honoring head basketball coach Sam Walker's 200th victory Wednesday night with $2 admission to a double-header against Incarnate Word. The women will tip off first at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m. A victory against the Cardinals would rank Walker as the all-time winningest coach in Lions' basketball history. Walker is currently tied with Jim Gudger with 201 career victories. The Lions are 9-3 and 2-0 in the Lone Star Conference, and have won seven of their last eight games. Their only loss in that time span game in overtime against Ouachita Baptist.

The women's team continues to struggle this season, despite starting the season with three straight victories. The Lions have lost five straight games, although they hope the hiring of assistant coach Leonard Bishop will help them work their way back into the win column.

The Lions will travel to Kingsville to take on the 5-4 Javelinas on Jan. 5. Tip-off that night is at 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men.

Poll

It was announced that A&M-Commerce was not allowed to have a blue field with gold lettering because Boise State University has a patent on blue fields. Would you have liked to seen a blue Memorial Stadium?

Yes. I think it would have helped the school spirit and brought more people to the games.
No. a blue field would only distract the players.
