AUBURN —
Dee Taylor Faires left this life on March 2, 2010, at the age of 86.
She was born June 15, 1923, to E.D. and Roma McDaniel Taylor in Como. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1940 and earned a bachelor's and a master's degree from East Texas State Teachers College. Dee married James O'Neil Faires Sr. on July 20, 1957; and he succeeds her along with daughter Susan Faires Dacus of Plano; son James O'Neil Faires Jr. and Sandra of Greensboro, N.C.; and her adored grandchildren, Elizabeth Faires Dacus of Dallas and Taylor Marie Faires and James O'Neil Faires, III (Jay). She is also succeeded by her brother, Eugene Taylor and Rosemary of Fort Worth; nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Dee centered her life around her family and many friends. Together she and her husband, James, traveled extensively around the world. She loved to entertain, volunteer, and read and write poetry. She lived life with grace and love.
She was an educator for more than 30 years and ended her career in Commerce with the Tri-County Special Education Co-op.
She was active in the Afflatus Culture Club, the Commerce Library Board, ETSU Homecoming Committee, Commerce Hospital Auxiliary, and was an advisor for the Sigma Zeta Chapter of Chi Omega at ETSU.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 5, at First Baptist Church in Commerce, Texas with the Reverend Johnnie Henderson officiating with graveside at Rosemound Cemetery. John Dacus delivered the eulogy.
John Dacus, John Walker, George Savage, Daniel Devega, Jay Garrett, Roy Neatherley and Dr. Dunn Faires served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included, Bill Rainey, Ray Chupp, Gene Casselberry, Sander Avant, Seth Avant and Larry Goddard.
Remembrances in her memory may be made to the Commerce Schools Educational Enrichment Foundation.

Ralph Lane Abernathy, 79, of Campbell passed away May 15, 2012, at his daughter’s residence in Dallas. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Commerce with Rev. Mary Alice Lyman officiating. Interment will follow at Brigham Cemetery near Campbell. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James H. Riffle, 88, of Commerce passed away May 6, 2012, in Commerce.
James was born Dec. 21, 1923, in Ward, Ark. to Lillie Mae Lyons and John Daniel Boone Riffle. On May 14, 1954, he married Lillian Fulfer in Commerce. He was a self-employed mechanic. -

DE QUEEN, Ark. – Mary Melinda Margaret Simon Griffin, formerly of Commerce, died April 20, 2012, in De Queen, Ark.
Mrs. Griffin was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Bellvue Hospital in New York City, the third of six children born to Newfoundland parents William and Elizabeth Simon. -

Dale was born in Commerce on March 2, 1933, to Willie Johnnie and Tinia Byers Whitefield Rex. Dale loved riding back roads and watching deer. -

Bernice Woods, 88, of Wolfe City passed away April 4, 2012.
Bernice was born in Roosevelt, Okla., on Sept. 12, 1923, to Ezell and Ida Johnson McBeth. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and renewing old furniture. -

A funeral services for Richard Lee (R.L.) Wood, 81, of Cumby will be held at the Brashear Baptist Church at 11 a.m., April 5, with Bro. David Burns and Bro. Harvey Snider officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, east of Cumby. Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce is in charge of arrangements.
