William Terrell

COMMERCE — William E. “Bill” Terrell, 85, of Greenville passed away Jan. 21, 2013, at his residence. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Saturday morning at 11 at the First United Methodist Church of Commerce.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home of Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Bill was born in DeKalb on March 28, 1927, to Louis Y. and Mary Etta Johns Terral. He married Myra June Bulls on Aug. 25, 1949, in Commerce. Bill served his country as a corpsman in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war, he continued his education at East Texas State Teachers College and The University of Texas in Austin.  Bill was a teacher for 35 years, serving Commerce public schools, Greenville public schools, Navarro College, East Texas State University and Grayson College. He retired to his beloved Shady Grove Orchard to grow peaches and blueberries. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Myra; sons William Lee Terrell and wife Lorrie, Paul Alton Terrell and wife Norma and Richard Lynn Terrell and wife Debra; sister Lucille Hodgson; brothers Louis Terrell and wife Pat and David Terrell; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Estelle Bewley; and three brothers who died in early childhood.  

The family would like to thank the staff of American Hospice.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Jude’s Hospital, First United Methodist Church Commerce or a charity of choice.

    Funeral services for Kelly Walker Jones of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 10 a.m., May 11, in the West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Hoyt Scoggins officiating and Jay Porterfield assisting. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Lance Looney, Grant Looney, Kyle Smith, Ryan Reed, Taylor Pace and Brad McFadden serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Trey Elliott.
