MISSION —
Patsy Jean (Camp) Gossett died Sept. 17, 2012, at the age of 84. She was born Aug. 1, 1928 in Commerce.
Patsy graduated from East Texas State University with an honor degree in mathematics. She and her husband joked that she actually got two degrees, hers and his. Patsy and Robert moved to San Benito in the early ‘50s where she and Robert began their teaching careers.
Patsy spent a few years teaching math in San Benito elementary schools and soon moved to Mission where she became head of the Math Department at Mission High School. She retired three times, but kept going back to the career she loved for 38 years. The amazing part was Patsy was legally blind, but she never let this handicap slow her down.
Patsy and Robert were devoted members to the First Presbyterian Church of Mission. They developed what they called their second family with all their church friends whom they cherished until their death. She sat on the Baccalaureat Committee for Mission High School for numerous years. She was a lifelong member of P.E.O. Chapter EY and Delta Kappa Gamma. Patsy was named Woman of the Year for Mission in 1992.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Wayne Gossett; parents Norman and Dewey Camp; and sisters Geneva Brown and Peggy Campbell.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Wayne (Norra) Gossett and William (Sherry) Gossett; grandchildren Susie Gravett, Carl Gossett, Kimberly Gossett and William Hunter Gossett; stepgrandchildren Frank Hausenfluck III, Chad Hausenfluck and Brandon Hausenfluck; great-grandchildren Trent Hausenfluck, McKensie Hausenfluck, Trevor Hausenfluck, Caleigh Hausenfluck, Jaycee Hausenfluck, Skylar Hausenfluck, Olivia Gravett, Maggie Gravett and Janie Gravett.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today (Sept. 20) at First Presbyterian Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens.
Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission, 621 E. Griffin Parkway, Mission, Texas 78574 956-583-6333.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth White, Harlan Woods, Pete Dick, James Smith, and Ray Myers.
