BUDDY NIX

COMMERCE — Buddy (J.H.) Nix Jr., 85, of Greenville passed away April 12, 2012, at Hunt Regional Medical Center. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m., April 15, in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Mr. Randy Daw officiating.

Born April 29, 1926, in Celeste, Buddy was the son of Howard and Una Kay (Mitchell) Nix. On December 24, 1946, he married Ruth Woodson in Greenville. During World War II, Mr. Nix served his country in the United States Army, having worked in the Army Red Cross supply during the time MacArthur was in Tokyo.

Buddy retired from the City of Commerce having worked as the director of utilities and director of engineering services and was formerly in charge of the construction oversight at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

He was also a retired engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation and was a member and instructor of the Texas Water & Utilities Association. He was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ.

His survivors include his wife of Greenville; daughters Ruth Ellen Norton and husband Jan of Greenville and Oklahoma City, Okla., Trish Brantley and husband Jerry of San Antonio, and Teena Maldonado and husband Paul of Greenville; brother Hoyt Nix and wife Nell of Ft. Worth; grandchildren J. Stephen Brantley of New York City, Jennifer Brantley of San Antonio, Jeri Norton Hines and husband Nick of New York City, N.Y., and Melissa Brantley Hennig and husband Drew of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Leta Glasscock.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Brantley, Bob DuLaney, Paul Maldonado Jr., Farrell Nalls, Verdane Nalls, and Jan Norton.

The family request memorials be made to the American Legion, 4509 Moulton Street, Greenville, Texas 75401.

    Funeral services for Kelly Walker Jones of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 10 a.m., May 11, in the West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Hoyt Scoggins officiating and Jay Porterfield assisting. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Lance Looney, Grant Looney, Kyle Smith, Ryan Reed, Taylor Pace and Brad McFadden serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Trey Elliott.
