CARROLL ADAMS

COMMERCE — Dr. Carroll Adams, 82, passed away Dec. 27, 2012, in Greenville.

William Carroll was born on July 15, 1930, in Star City, Ark., to Allie L. and Ila Miles Adams. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps in research and development.

He attended Lake Village Public Schools and graduated in 1948. William Carroll received his B.A. in 1951 at Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas) and received his M.A. in 1953. Continuing his education, he received his Ph.D in 1963 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

In 1960 Dr. Adams joined faculty at East Texas State College (now Texas A&M University- Commerce). He taught full-time for 35 years and was named Professor Emeritus in 1998.

Dr. Adams is survived by his sister, Margaret Adams Smith of Little Rock, Ark., and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Dr. William Carroll Adams is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Arvel T. Adams; his three sisters, Mildred Adams Moseley, Allie Adams Salem and Reba Adams Mitchell; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Craddock Adams.

There will be no local services as Dr. Adams will be going home to Arkansas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Commerce.

    Funeral services for Kelly Walker Jones of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 10 a.m., May 11, in the West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Hoyt Scoggins officiating and Jay Porterfield assisting. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Lance Looney, Grant Looney, Kyle Smith, Ryan Reed, Taylor Pace and Brad McFadden serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Trey Elliott.
