Annie Golightly died Feb. 28, 2012, in Corsicana.
Born Anna Mack Milford Sept. 25, 1931, on a cotton farm in Dial, Texas, to Homer Dale and Mary Milford, Ms. Golightly was mother to five, grandmother to 16, great-grandmother to 13 and great-great-grandmother to one.
A champion rodeo rider and 36-year veteran of the entertainment, and food and beverage business, Ms. Golightly performed with such greats as Tom T. Hall, Rex Allen, Rosemary Clooney, Ace Reid and Arthur Duncan. As a recording artist and performer, she entertained such notables as John and Nellie Connally, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Chuck Connors, Nelson Rockefeller and four presidents, including the presidents of Argentina and Panama.
She followed her 1994 graduation from Texas Wesleyan University, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in English, with the adventure of a lifetime. At age 64, she was the only woman on the team of cowboys who drove a large herd of Longhorn cattle from Fort Worth, Texas, to Miles City, Mont,. on the Great American Cattle Drive in 1995.
Ms. Golightly was a well-known song writer, portrait artist and writer having published works in several magazines and newspapers including The Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Dallas Morning News. She also authored two books, “Down a Cotton Row,” and “Dreams and a White Horse,” which is a memoir of her adventure on the cattle drive. She was a nominee to The Cowgirl Hall of Fame.
In addition to her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild, Ms. Golightly is survived by daughter and son-in-law Lea and Tommy Bennett of Ripley, Miss.; daughter Lynda Wendy Golightly of California; daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Grady Manning of Corsicana; daughter and son-in-law Keely and Dale Robertson of Falkner, Miss.; and son and daughter-in-law Kenny and Margie Smith of Tyler.
At her insistence, there will be no funeral or formal memorial service. It was her request that her friends and family simply remember the great times and happiness they shared with her.
In hopes that she might be of service even after her death, she donated her body to science.

Funeral services for Kelly Walker Jones of Sulphur Springs were conducted at 10 a.m., May 11, in the West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Hoyt Scoggins officiating and Jay Porterfield assisting. Interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park with Lance Looney, Grant Looney, Kyle Smith, Ryan Reed, Taylor Pace and Brad McFadden serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Trey Elliott.
