Kathaleen Rogers

Kathaleen Inez Mallard Rogers was born June 1, 1912, in Athens, daughter of Dosson De Witt and Carrie Dell Muckelroy Mallard. On June 11, 1932, she was united in marriage with R.L. Rogers in Bossier City, La.; he preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1986.

Most all of her married lifetime (since 1937), Mrs. Rogers made her home in Commerce. She joined the Methodist church at age 12 in San Angelo. She and her husband and their two young daughters joined the First United Methodist Church in Commerce in 1943. She was a member of the Guild Circle for many years, and she and her husband were members of the Fifty Plus Club. She was a past 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Hunt County Extension Council serving as council chairman. For many years she was a member of the Lebanon Home Demonstration Club, the Hunt County Genealogy Society, Hunt County Historical Club, the Hopkins County AARP chapter, and she was a past regent of the Captain Charles Croxall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She operated a home child care center for a number of years.

On Oct. 18, 1991, she moved to Albuquerque, N.M., to be near her children. She was known to many as “Tommie” or “Mammaw.”

Mrs. Rogers died Sept. 17, 2008, in Albuquerque, N.M.

Survivors are two daughters, Joy Carolyn Sparks of Albuquerque, N.M., and Betty Wages of Avenal, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Two sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Parker and Mrs. Emma John Anderson, preceded her in death.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.

Mark Speed

SULPHUR SPRINGS, — Funeral services for Mark Kevin Speed, 41, of Hopkins County were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Beginnings Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Pogue and Rev. Larry Jordan officiating. Burial followed in North Hopkins Cemetery with Tommy Sanderson, Russell Skeen, Mike Garner, Chad Joslin, Doug Williams and Gary Don Petrea serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Smiddy, Coye Golightly, Terry Virgil, Mike Orr, Robert Wolf and all the inmates at county jail.

Mark died Sept. 18, 2008, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

He was born on Oct. 12, 1966, in Hopkins County, son of Billy Don and Billie Jan Parnell Speed. He married Dena Thompson in Hopkins County on Oct. 17, 2001; she survives. Mark was a truck driver for Truline for several years. He became a licensed minister on Jan. 4, 2007. He was really active in the New Beginnings Recovery Group (TGIF) and considered them part of his extended family. He was also very faithful and committed to the jail ministry in Hopkins County. He ministered to them on a regular basis and had a special place in his heart for the inmates due to his love for Jesus.

Mark was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Pop-daddy” and was dearly loved by his family and everyone who knew him.

Other survivors include one son, Dustin Speed and wife Sirena of Sulphur Springs; a stepson, Jeremy Thompson of Sulphur Springs’ stepdaughter Caitlin Thompson of Sulphur Springs a brother, Terry Don Speed and wife Bonnie of Emory; grandchildren, Harley Kate Speed, Hannah Presley Speed and stepgranddaughter Desiree Nicole Thompson; and nieces Melanie Speed and Chasity Speed, both of Emory. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dr. Gerald Lacy

SAN ANGELO — Dr. Gerald Morris Lacy, 67, of San Angelo died Aug. 22, 2008, in San Angelo.

Gerald was born Sept. 18, 1940, in Greenville, son of Dr. James Maxwell and Jennie Titus Lacy. He graduated from East Texas State University with a bachelor of arts degree. He then received his master of arts degree from North Texas State University and went on to receive his doctorate at the University of Texas in Austin.

Gerald was a longtime faculty member of the English Department at Angelo State University. Gerald’s interests included photography and gardening, but his true passion in life was teaching.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Gerald is survived by two daughters, Channing Bushnell, of Haverton, Pa., and Jana Burk of Tulsa, Okla.; his mother of Austin; and one brother, Dr. Larry Lacy of Austin.

At Gerald’s request no services will be held. Interment was in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.

Sherry Keim

COMMERCE — Sherry F. Keim, 42, of Commerce went to be with our Lord on Sept. 20, 2008. A graveside service is scheduled at 1 p.m. today at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cooper with Rev. Gary Sanders officiating.

Visitation is scheduled today one hour prior to the service at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce.

Daughter of Franklin Dow Sr. and Dorothy Faye Pruitt Clements Sr., she was born March 4, 1966, in Dallas. She married Paul F.L. Keim on Sept. 1, 2001. Mrs. Keim was a housewife.

Survivors include her husband of Commerce; a son, Micheal R. Garcia and wife Savannah King Garcia; two grandchildren, Micheal R. Garcia Jr. and Emily Grace Garcia of Commerce; her mother and stepfather, Dorothy Faye and Felix Thomas of New Hope; one brother, Franklin Dow Clements Jr.; two sisters, Lorrie Gray of Leonard and Frances R. Recer of Commerce; several nieces and nephews; father- and mother-in-law Arthur and Jessie F. Teel of Cumby; and sisters- and brothers-in-law Deborah and Randy Jones and Michael and Hazel Keim of Cumby and Kenneth Keim and Kevin and Sherrie Keim of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her father; a brother-in-law, Gregory A. Keim; and a daughter, Anna Marie Garcia.

Pallbearers are Michael Garcia, Franklin Clements, Tommy Boyd, Kenneth Keim, Don Boyd and Randy Jones. Hubert Arthur Teel is honorary pallbearer.
