Stadium to receive new field, track

COMMERCE — Following a town hall meeting at the Rayburn Student Center Tuesday night, Texas A&M University-Commerce Athletic Director Ryan Ivey talked about the new track and football field planned for Memorial Stadium.

“It’s about a 75-day process; hopefully it can be finished a little sooner,” he said regarding the demolition of the current track and football field and installation of the new ones. “Right now, it’s a $750,000 project.”

Commerce High School, which plays their home games at Memorial Stadium, will not pay additional money for the new field.

“They’re not paying any more from my understanding, other than their normal facilty fee and scoreboard advertisement,” he said.

Initial construction on Memorial Stadium finished in 1950. A new field and track were installed most recently in 2006.
