COMMERCE —
A new exibit for the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum provided by Atmos Energy was unveiled Friday. The new exibit, called “Project Pipeline,” will teach children how natural gas is distributed by letting kids build with tubes used by Atmos Energy.
More than 100 people, including State Sen. Bob Deuell, were on hand for the unveiling ceremony.
“This is such a joy when we see a community that supports their children,” Deuell said.
This is the second exibit that Atmos Energy has donated to the children’s museum, with the first being Dino Alley funded by Atmos in 2008.
“There has been no greater contributor than Atmos Energy,” Sharlene Freeman, executive director of the Children’s Museum said. “They funded the Dino Alley exibit that shows children how natural gas is made; and now Project Pipeline, which teaches kids the importance of safety when working with natural gas.”
According to Freeman, donations such as this are what makes the Northeast Texas Children’s museum such a good museum for children.
“We have had 20,000 visits from 95 different communities this year,” she said. “I appreciate the support from the community of Commerce and the Northeast Texas community.”
Sandra Doyle, Director of Public Affairs at Atmos Energy said that Atmos Energy prides itself in helping out the communities it serves.
“Any time we can help educate children on natural gas, we are there,” she said. “We love to give back to the communities we serve.”
According to Freeman, companies such as Atmos Energy and others like it, are integral to the children’s museum.
“The support from Atmos Energy has been invaluable in bringing people in and having education programs,” she said. “We would not exist without the support of groups such as Atmos Energy.”
