Forum on ending local poverty planned

COMMERCE — The second EPIC (Ending  Poverty in Commerce) community dinner and forum is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., Sept. 6, at First United Methodist Church  on SH 50 in Commerce.

The event is sponsored by the Commerce Alliance for Ministry.

Following a light dinner, featured presenters will include Chamber of Commerce President LaDonna Patterson, who was on the ground floor of EPIC when it was launched several years ago and who will include a presentation on the “Circles” concept for addressing community poverty, and the Rev. Maria Garza, pastor of First Christian Church in Commerce who will share information regarding Community Plaza, a program dealing with confronting issues of poverty unique to the Hispanic community.

There is no charge for the meal or program; however, those attending are requested to RSVP to First United Methodist Church at 903-886-3220.  For more information call Rev. Dr. Timothy M. Roddam, Alliance president at 903-681-3161.
