Market Day coming to downtown this weekend

Market Day is back in Commerce and just in time for the holidays.
The Market Day event, often referred to as the Swap Meet, is set for 8 a.m. Saturday at the Farmer’s Market parking lot in downtown Commerce.
“We still have booths available, and will have until early Saturday morning,” said Mike Odom. “For $10 you can get a 15-foot space to set up your wares.”
Odom has been working with the downtown restaurants to ensure that carryout menus are available for those participating in the event, in an effort to make things as easy as possible for both vendors and customers.
“We’re aiming for the second Saturday of each month,” he said. “This will be the last one for 2009, what with the craziness of the holidays and the weather, but we plan to start back up in March.”
Approximately 20 vendors will be in attendance, encompassing a wide range of wares, from scented candles to used power tools.
There should be something for everyone at the event and at prices that just can’t be beat, but don’t wait too long, as vendors usually begin packing things up by 4 p.m., if not earlier.
“We’re really hoping to bootstrap this into a monthly event that will be beneficial for vendors who participate, as well as for the downtown area of Commerce,” said Odom. “I’m happy to say the forecast says it should be mild. The last one we had in October was really cold and participation reflected that. I hope this one will be much better attended.”
