Retired professor struck and killed while crossing road
A retired Texas A&M; University-Commerce professor was killed, while crossing a street Tuesday morning when he was struck by a pickup.
At approximately 7:40 a.m., Commerce Police and Fire Departments and the Texas A&M; University-Commerce Police were dispatched to a report of an auto-pedestrian accident in the 2100 block of Live Oak Street.
Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews said officers discovered that an elderly man had been struck by a 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup.
Upon investigation, Kerry stated that it appears that the pedestrian, Dr. Jack Ingram, was crossing the roadway near the intersection of Live Oak Street and Prim Street. The truck was turning left onto Live Oak from Prim Street. Kerry reported that the driver stated that the sun was in her eyes as she turned, and she felt that she had struck something in the roadway. She stopped her vehicle and discovered she had struck a
pedestrian.
Dr. Ingram was transported by American Medical Response to Hunt Regional Community Hospital in Greenville. He was pronounced dead a short time later by Justice of the Peace Sandy Lane Berger. An autopsy has been requested.
Kerry indicated that foul play was not a factor in this accident.
