Commerce Police respond to multiple assault calls

The Halloween weekend wasn’t too scary for the Commerce Police Department, but it certainly was busy.
The latest report of calls routed through the Commerce Police Department dispatch, which covered the period between 6 a.m. last Oct. 28 and 4:59 a.m. Wednesday, showed officers and emergency personnel responding to reports of gun shots, fireworks, smoke and a fight from late Saturday night through early Sunday morning.
Officers also had to handle seven reported assaults during the past week.
A report of possible shots fired was listed at the intersection of Maple and Division Streets at 9:38 p.m. Saturday, at the same time a smoke investigation was listed on Division Street.
Fireworks were reported on FM 3218 at 8:11 p.m. Saturday.
Threats were reported on Ash Street at 8:08 p.m. Saturday.
A fight was reported on Live Oak at 1:23 a.m. Sunday. It was one of three fight calls during the past week, including incidents on Washington Street at 9:56 p.m. Monday and 2:18 a.m. Tuesday.
Assaults were reported on Park Street at 7:14 p.m. Friday, on Cooper Street at 3:42 a.m. Saturday, on Culver Street at 11:33 p.m. Saturday, on Sycamore Street at 10:43 p.m. Sunday, on Lee at 3:24 p.m. Monday, on Sycamore at 6:03 p.m. Monday and on Durham at 1:35 a.m. Tuesday.
Burglaries of a habitation were reported on Live Oak at 2:12 a.m. Sunday and Sycamore at 1:32 p.m. Tuesday. A burglary of a vehicle was reported on Oneal at 7:14 p.m. Tuesday and two burglary alarm calls were also listed during the past week.
A fire was reported at a residence in the 400 block of Bishop at 7:31 p.m. Monday and there were seven fire alarm calls listed.
There were 61 traffic stops/calls, five accidents, three reckless drivers, two motorist assists, two illegally parked vehicles and one hit-and-run report during the past week.
There were 11 disturbances, officers met with complainants 13 times, and there were seven reports of suspicious vehicles/activity/persons (with one arrest).
There were nine escorts, eight ambulance/medical calls, four warrant services, three arrests, three prisoner transports, two injured persons, two welfare checks, two juvenile calls, two open building calls and two calls of criminal mischief.
There was one call each listed during the past week for animals, recovered property, follow-up, dog scratch, harassment, barking dogs, abandoned vehicle, helicopter standby, prowler, hang-up times two, driving while intoxicated, alarm, fallen tree on vehicle, 911 hang-up, theft/lost wallet, found wallet, lost/found, credit card abuse and unknown nature.
