Commerce city pool to be closed permanently

COMMERCE — Kids in Commerce will have one less place to splash this summer.

The Commerce City Council has voted to permanently close the city’s Public Swimming Pool, due to maintenance issues.

According to a statement issued Friday by City Secretary/Public Information Officer Marty Cunningham, the Council met Wednesday to discuss the future of the pool, which was closed last summer due to problems with the pump.

“A detailed report was provided to the Council outlining the repairs needed and the costs involved in making such repairs,” Cunningham said, adding the Council took into consideration not only the extensive costs involved in repairing the facility, but the entertainment it provided to the city’s residents, especially the children. “However, due to the high price tag required to repair and maintain the pool, it is unfortunate that the City will not be able to fund the needed repairs and will be permanently closing the Commerce City Pool.”
