A Commerce man was taken into custody and charged with manufacture delivery possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone, and evading arrest using a motor vehicle Wednesday morning. The man, identified as Darrell Eugene Brown, has been released pending trial on a bond of $7,500 for the manufacturing charge and $7,000 for the evading arrest charge.
The Commerce Police Department responded to an anonymous tip shortly after 9 a.m. on Sept. 12 of illegal narcotics activities in the area of Durham and Church Street next to the City Park. Sergeant Marcus Cantera arrived on the scene and identified three individuals at the location, at which time Brown attempted to flee the scene in an all-terrain vehicle. Cantera managed to pursue Brown on foot and get him off the ATV.
Officers found a bag Brown discarded during the chase that contained four baggies of marijuana totaling 22 grams. The officers also arrested Tracy Brock on a charge of disorderly conduct. She pled guilty and was released.
“The police department would like to thank the citizen that made the anonymous tip that led to the arrest,” Commerce Police Department Communications Officer Alex Suarez said. “It’s with the citizens’ help that we’re going to be able to curtail drug use in Commerce. We encourage citizens to call in information. As this individual did, they can remain anonymous.”
