COMMERCE —
Nine Journalism Division majors are serving as interns this summer at professional organizations in Texas, Oklahoma, and Washington D.C.
An internship is required for majors in the sequences of news-editorial and public relations, according to Dr. Lamar W. Bridges, division co-ordinator.
“We view an internship as an integral part of a student’s program,” Bridges said. ”An internship opportunity has to be approved, and a professional journalist or communicator has to work closely with the student. Then, the student has to submit reports and a final portfolio of work products to me.”
Interns in Texas this summer are Joseph Hamrick at The Commerce Journal, Cliff Gibson at The Greenville Herald-Banner, Rachel Bailey with the City of Greenville, Alex Germain with the Greenville Chamber Convention and Visitors Bureau, Carinne Brewer with the Hunt Regional Medical Center, Nick Bailey with Austin Lifestyle Magazine, and Marissa Benavides with Lights.Camera.Help in Austin.
Keyania Campbell is working with the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C., and Morgan Gallant in is Oklahoma with ROI Media in Tulsa.
Gibson and Nick Bailey are news-editorial majors, while the other seven students are majors in public relations.
All of the students except Germain will return this fall to complete their degrees. Germain is a candidate for a bachelor’s degree in public relations at the August 2012 commencement.
