Chamber of Commerce prepares for annual Bois d’Arc Bash celebration

COMMERCE — September in Commerce means a few different things. The kids are back in school, the college dorms are full again, and crowds gather at Memorial stadium to watch local heroes battle on Friday nights.

It also means that the 27th annual Bois d’Arc Bash is right around the corner, and with it a variety of attractions, booths and entertainment.

The Bash will be held downtown in the Square from Sept. 21-23 and will feature a 5k run, pageant, car show, a carnival live music and much more, according to the Commerce Chamber of Commerce.

Friday, music on the main stage will include the Texas A&M University-Commerce steel band Panimation from 5 to 6 p.m., the Birthright Blues Project from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Dallas jazz musician TuTu Jones from 8 to 9 p.m. Former Graham Wilkinson will headline from 9:30 to 11 p.m. Bands will also be performing on the 88.9 KETR stage throuhout the day.

On Saturday, beginning at 11:30 a.m., the Bois d’Arc Dixieland Band will take the main stage. The Dixieland Band have been performing at the Bash since 1996. The Blandelles will perform on the Ben E. Keith stage at 1 p.m. to play their collection of oldies rock n’ roll covers. Local country music group Outta Hand will take the stage at 2:30 p.m. Outta Hand performed at the Texas Song Fest held in downtown Commerce in late April.

Li Sher Dance Studio will perform in front of the Ben E. Keith stage at 3 p.m. The group features dancers that range from 18 month olds to teenagers.

Shaun Michaels will perform on the Ben E. Keith stage at 4 p.m. Michaels, a native Texan, has performed in Europe and Canada as well as throughout the United States. The Cross Trails Band will play from 6 to 7 p.m., with the Samuel Davidson Project from Austin taking thet stage at 7:30 p.m. The country music band Backseat Molly will headline, beginning at 9:30 and running until 11 p.m.

The Kiwanis Pankcake Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 22 and will serve pancakes until 10 a.m., as long as supplies last. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit scholarships given by the club to various community service projects.

The 5K Bois d’Arc Dash will begin at 8 a.m., although participants must be registered by 7:30 a.m. if they want their time recorded, according to Commerce Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Doug Rohrabaugh. The 5K will begin and end at the corner of Washington and Bonham, and the full route is posted on the Bash’s website, www.boisdarc-bash.com.

The Bash parade lineup will begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 22 in the corner of the Personalized Printing parking lot, with the parade beginning at 10.

The Aglaia Duck Race is scheduled to begin at noon on Sept. 22 in front of Huffman Farm Supply on Bonham Street. The annual event is a yearly fund-raiser for the Aglaia Club, and tickets are available for $10 each. Each ticket corresponds to a plastic duck in the race, according to Rohrabaugh, and the winner will receive $1,000. Tickets can be purchased from members of the club.

Triple T Amusements, the company that provided the carnival for the Commerce Fourth of July celebration, is back. The carnival will be open Thursday and Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 a.m to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Armbands will be available on Saturday for all-day riding, according to Rohrabaugh.

Individuals can register for the 17th Annual Bois d’Arc Bash Classic and Truck Show on Sunday from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and ping-pong ball participant judging will begin at noon.
