Busy week for the Commerce Police Department
Officers with the Commerce Police Department were kept hopping during the past week, dealing with multitudes of traffic stops, alarm calls, disturbances and more.
A log of calls through the Commerce Police dispatch reveals that between June 24 (last Wednesday) and Wednesday of this week, officers were involved in 43 traffic stops, met with complainants 18 times and responded to calls of suspicious activity, vehicles or persons 13 times.
There were 10 alarm calls and 10 disturbance calls and five reported accidents, along with four motorist assists and one hit-and-run call.
Among the remaining calls, there were six escorts, six medical calls, four thefts and four prisoner escorts/checks. There were three calls involving juveniles, three welfare checks and three 911 hangups.
There were two fire calls, two assaults, two criminal mischiefs reported, two warrant services and two calls concerning road hazards.
There was one call each of forgery, an illegally parked vehicle, gas smell, disorderly conduct, a follow-up, reckless driver, harassment, a message delivery, possible man with a gun, narcotics, burglary of a motor vehicle, and a suicidal person.

Commerce mayor calls for investigation
An investigation on three Commerce city council members was called by Mayor Quay Throgmorton for violations of the city charter, Open Meetings Act, city administrative policies and the city manager’s employment contract following the council’s split decision to suspend City Manager Dion Miller for an undetermined amount of time during a special council meeting Thursday.

In order to improve techniques and relationships between different agencies, the Commerce Police Department hosted a Basic SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) School last week.
