City ready for spectacular Fourth of July celebration
Commerce residents will have an opportunity to celebrate Saturday.
The eighth annual Fourth of July celebration sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce will provide a variety of activities for all age groups.
The event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., July 4, at Centennial Park, located next to Commerce Elementary.
According to chamber director Barbara Kersey, no road closings are expected in the general vicinity of the event.
Multiple activities for children, including bounce houses, pony rides and various games.
The annual softball game will pit a team consisting of City of Commerce and Texas A&M University-Commerce personnel against a team with Commerce Independent School District personnel and Chamber of Commerce representatives. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The fireworks display is planned to begin at approximately 9:30 p.m., and will feature choreographed music to be broadcast on KETR 88.9 FM.
Live music will also be provided. Benzley is expected to perform at 5:30 p.m., The Dixieland Band at 6:30 p.m., and the Blandelles at 7:45 p.m.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, sno cones and cold drinks will be available.
The admission fee is one can of non-perishable food per person, all of which will be donated to the Commerce Food Pantry.
The event is being sponsored by 25 municipal and corporate sponsors.

All city offices will be closed Friday due to the July 4 holiday. Trash service will not be interrupted.
