COMMERCE —
88.9 KETR General Manager Jerrod Knight has strong ties to the Commerce area. A Wolfe City High School and Texas A&M University-Commerce graduate, Knight returned to Commerce after stints at radio stations in Dallas, Jacksboro, Okla., Woodworth and Fort Worth to work for the same radio station he interned for in college.
A proud member of the Commerce community, Knight has been very active in the Commerce Rotary Club since he joined in the fall of 2010. In 2011, he was named chair of the Public Relations committee, and he’s worked hard to improve his community. So hard, in fact, that he was named Commerce Rotarian of the Year.
“It’s an honor and a privilege, and totally unexpected,” Knight said. “To receive this honor, and this early in my Rotary career, really helps to bolster my commitment to the cause. I’m certainly looking forward to this new rotary year as Foundation Chair under new Club President Dr. Lavelle Hendricks.”
Knight became a member of the Commerce Rotary Club after an invitation from membership chair and Cypress Bank Vice President Robin Alexander.
“I’d had an opportunity to speak some months prior at the Greenville Noon club on the topic of 88.9 KETR, and the invitation to visit came at a time when I was ready to become more involved in the community I serve,” he said. “ I had no idea the degree to which I’d be involved, but it’s been an incredible journey so far, and I look forward to our weekly meetings and the many ways that our club is helping the citizens of Commerce, Texas.”
As a rotarian, Knight was able to become familiar with the online content management system ClubRunner, which was designed specifically for Rotary Clubs.
“Through ClubRunner, I now organize and maintain our online club records, assist the secretaries and treasurer with online billing,” he said. “I get to tell the stories about what we’re up to on a week-to-week basis for anyone who would visit our website at commercerotary.org.”
While Knight enjoyes the friendships he’s established through the Rotary Club, being able to help students prepare for their education is what he is most proud of.
“I particularly enjoy the amazing feeling that comes from being part of team that’s granting scholarships to deserving high school students, that’s helping to 'Stuff the Bus' each year to makes sure school students have the supplies they need to learn, and that’s offering ways for Commerce residents to display their American pride on national holidays,” he said.
But as much as Knight does, he’s not alone in doing it.
“I’d like to give a nod to my incredibly patient, gorgeous and loving wife of nearly four years, Jessica, without whom I’d be lost in mere mundane existence, and with whom I’ve built a life I could only have wished for when I was a younger man,” he said.
